Planning Our 10 Year Anniversary

This August will be 8 years since my husband and I got married and we have started to think how we could mark our 10 year anniversary. We started off by thinking up a great theme for a wedding renewal and using it as a way to celebrate the family we have made together. It would be simple and quiet but fit in with celebrating our memories. After a lot of excited planning with a little help from Pinterest we started to think that maybe we were focusing more on this event then celebrating our beautiful family.

After browsing the internet on a lazy Sunday morning I came across the blog of Lulastic. A blog written by a lady who took her family free camping across Europe before settling in New Zealand. Her site is full of advice for travelling Europe with a family while tackling lack of money and even hygiene*. That morning I was hooked, hooked on the idea of whisking my family away to Europe, hooked on the idea of doing nothing but having family time for six months with no interruptions from school or work.

By lunch time I had already shared the idea with my husband and he was just as excited to give it a go as I was, which I’ll be honest I was a little surprised about. Now by this point I was tucking into my lunch dreaming of the amazing quality family time we could have, running barefoot on remote beaches, waking up to beautiful views and introducing the children to a little culture.

We have been on and off discussing the topic but now the sensible parent in me is starting to appear. What if we cant find work when we get back and struggle to find a home because of the lack of money. What if we have a major negative effect on the children’s education taking them out of school for a minimum of 4 months(we would plan it to also take up the summer holidays as well for less interference). Now I feel in two minds and I don’t not know whether to follow what now feels like a fantasy or not.

So for now we are making the most of the summer holidays planning to travel to two European countries each year to explore different cultures with the children in hope that a small dose of free camping will help us make the decision. It’ll be a complete change from our usual family summer holiday break to Butlins.

What would you do? Take the next boat outta here or stay in reality and simply home a nice luxury holiday instead?
