String Painting

It seems like ages since I last added a craft or piece of art that the children made so I thought that this afternoon I would share with you a lovely piece which turned out better than I had thought it would.

P has been asking for ages that she wanted to make something with string and for a long time I have been trying to think of a really clever craft to try however I really couldn't. So I decided that we would do something with  using string rather then made from string. String painting is a fantasic painting activity for young children, it opens up to discussions about symetry and pattern aswell as being a great surprise for young children when they get to revel their picture.

Step one: lay the string into a tray or pots filled with paint.

Step two: take the string back out and lay them on the paper. The more wiggly the string the more exciting the picture.

Step three: fold over the paper and rub the paper from top to bottom.

Step four: open the paper up to revel your little ones beautiful work of art.

Here is P's string picture. She loved seeing how the way she positioned the string affected pattern.

Monkeys Doodles: I see sea shells!

This weekend we popped to the sea side and relaxed for the afternoon on the beach. Little man enjoyed collecting little shells while P was off in the crab rock pool washing off big big shells and searching under the rocks with her daddy.

When we got the shells home P decided that she wanted to paint them up. She sat nicely for an hour decorating each shell individually and here they are.
